SCHOLARSHIP FUND

 

 

SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE: Each year, the President shall appoint a Scholarship Committee consisting of no less than three (3) Delegates from Local Union 124.  The Committee shall have the responsibility to oversee the scholarship selection process itself, for the current year.  The Committee shall report its results and make recommendations to the Local Union body by the JUNE meeting for the current year.  The Committee will have the final decision on all questions and disputes.

 

ELIGIBILITY: The Local Union 124 Scholarship Program is open to the sons and daughters who are legal dependents of Local Union 124 active and retired members, and under the age of 24.

 

Each applicant must submit a minimum of 350 word essay on “How Unions Have Affected My Life.”

 

SCHOLARSHIPS:  The number of scholarships (one time grants) and amount of each scholarship will be announced prior to the application dates for the current school year.  The maximum dollar amount granted to any one winner shall not exceed the total cost of the curriculum, and must be applied directly to the cost of said curriculum.  All scholarship awards shall be made out in the name of the applicant and the Institution of learning he or she is or will be attending.

 

STUDY REQUIREMENTS:  No specific studies are required.  Scholarship winners may pursue whatever courses they wish.  Applicants must be enrolled in a minimum of six (6) hours and accepted into or be attending an accredited university, college, community college, or an approved trade school or technical school no later than September 1 of the application year.

 

APPLICATIONS:  Applications will be accepted during the months of January through May 31st of the application year.  ALL APPLICATIONS MUST BE COMPLETED AND POSTMARKED NO LATER THAN MAY 31st of the application year in order to be eligible for the current school year.

 

Applications will be provided to the membership at the regular monthly meeting or can be obtained through the financial office of Local Union 124.

 

SELECTIONS:  Winners, as well as alternates for each of the winners, are chosen by lottery, at the JUNE meeting.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

NOTE TO ALL APPLICANTS

 

 

Applications will be accepted through May 31, 2020.  To be eligible for the drawing, your application must be postmarked no later than May 31, 2020.

 

 

INCOMPLETE  APPLICATIONS  WILL  BE  DISQUALIFIED

 

·        Fill out Section A.  Answer all questions.  Remember to sign your application.

 

·        Attach 350 word essay on “How Unions have affected my life.”

 

·        Do not attach school transcripts to this application.  Winners are selected by lottery-type drawing.  Only one application per year will be accepted.  All applications must reach Local Union 124 office by the May 31st deadline.

 

·        Mail or hand-deliver application to Local Union 124 by May 31st.
