RENEW 124 is hosting an annual softball event to kick off the summer. We will be providing food, beer,
and games. We have rented the softball field from 2pm – 8pm (with lights) and the shelter across the
parking lot next to the playground the whole day. Here is a list of planned activities:
12pm Lunch of burgers and hotdogs
2pm – 4pm Screwball Softball: Open to all. Teams picked at event. 7 innings. 1 hr limit/game. No score
1st – Full Line-Up (No outs): Everyone gets a chance at bat.
2nd – Dizzy Bat: Batter holds one end of the bat to his/her forehead and the other on the ground,
then spins around three times. After spinning, the batter hits the ball off a tee.
3rd – 4 outs
4th – Chicago Ball: Use a 16 in ball
5th – Reverse bases: Runner goes to 3rd base 1st and 1st base 3rd
6th – 1 pitch: Each batter sees 1 pitch. Ball you walk, strike you’re out.
7th – Reverse hand: Batters bat opposite handed, fielders throw opposite handed.
4pm – 6pm Kickball: Open to all: Teams picked at event. 1 hr limit/game. No Score.
5pm Dinner: BBQ team will start serving chicken and ribs around this time.
6:30 – 7:45 Competitive Play: This one is for the trophy. Teams will be selected ahead of time, so you
must be signed up to play. Space is limited. Let us know which position you prefer to play and an
alternate position you would be willing to play. ASA rules. Open to IBEW Lu 124 members only.
In addition to the field events there will be activities and playground for the kids and tailgate/yard
Participating in the field events is not required for attendance (please still let us
know if you plan on attending and with how many so we know how much food to make)
Family and friends welcome and encouraged to attend.
If you are planning on participating in the softball events, you have to bring your own
glove. Using your own bat also okay.
Dress in appropriate attire for the activities in which you plan to participate (e.g. no
sandals on the field). Plan on being out in the sun.
Tailgate/Picnic rules apply. Bring it if you want it (e.g. lawn chair, shade tents,
Beer will be provided. BYOB on anything special.
There is absolutely no alcohol on the field. Park rules. It kills the grass.
If you have any equipment you can provide for others to use, feel free to bring it.
We will need help with setup, cooking, and clean up. Let us know, or just show up, if
you can lend a hand.

Last Note: Many people have expressed interest in a more competitive/ league style play. This is an
excellent idea. This is a union wide/ family friendly event, but we were hoping this event would be
primer that could lead into something more. If you want that to become a reality, let’s conversate.
